Want to Get Away?
Fredericksburg
With more than 50 wineries and tasting rooms, tons of restaurants and cozy guesthouses and B&Bs, it’s no surprise that Fredericksburg has been labeled one of “America’s Most Romantic Small Towns” by CNN Travel and was named one of the "13 Most Romantic Small Towns" by Reader's Digest. Fredericksburg is a great Texas town with tons of charm!
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND
Also known as SPI to Texans, this beach has my heart! It is safe, has great food and lots of fun for the whole family!
*Safety first, Texas beaches typically stay shallow for quite a bit out into the ocean. This allows kids to enjoy jumping and riding the waves (bonus tip: make sure you get a boogie board with a slick back, the styrofoam ones break and don't work well.)
* The Food is fresh and delicious. Places we never miss when we visit SPI, We love and give 5 Stars every time (even with their service)! The Meatball Cafe and Joe's Oyster Bar. The Meatball Cafe has incredible homemade bread and pasta. Joe's Oyster bar has incredible fresh seafood with their own unique seasoning! Make sure to try Nathan's Special!
*Fun for the Family
Spend an afternoon doing a dolphin watch! We love The Original Dolphin Watch. They allow you to bring your own cooler with drinks and snacks. Remember no glass.
Our kids love the Gravity Park. They have a huge race track for go karts. They also have putt-putt and Skycoaster plus lots of other family fun stuff including an arcade.
Texas has great roadtrip getaways..
ROUND ROCK
Kalahari: Indoor Waterpark
a staycation!
*Texan Tip: Our favorite way to see the wineries is 290 Wine Shuttle- a shuttle that has multiple stops just hop on or hop off at any of the wineries. Tourist Tip: get your wrist bands online before you arrive so they aren't sold out!
*Food: My husband and I like to walk Main Street and have snacks at each restaurant when it's warm. They usually have live music. It is a German town, they are known to have great schnitzel. We also really like Mamacita's for Tex-Mex and margaritas!
Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts have everything you and your family need to make long-lasting memories. From pools, water slides, and splashgrounds to jumping pillows, wagon rides, and foam parties to theme events, s’mores, and of course, visits with Yogi Bear™ and his friends, family fun is always the main attraction at our family campgrounds!
Jellystone Camp Resorts
*Texan Tip: We usually have fun doing one night stays. Your room may not be ready (it always has been for us though) go ahead and get to the waterpark when it opens the day of your stay. Typically that is 10am so you can have a full day of waterpark fun! Then the next day you check out but you can stay at the water park till it closes. We bring a separate small bag to have close to change into for the ride home. They have a huge arcade with rides and a rock climbing wall so don't forget both flip flops for the water park and tennis shoes to do the obstacle course.
There are multiple Jellystone Camp Resorts around Austin. Our favorite one is Kerrville. We have made tons of memories at the Waller location as well!
*Texan Tip: The month of October is super fun! Tons of activities to do with the kids, plus usually the water is warm enough to swim too! They usually do trick or treating at every site on Saturday so bring your costumes.
*Be sure to call ahead to see about burn bans before you plan your meals, that way you'll know if you can grill or bring your own charcoal grill with a lid.
*Kerville and Canyon Lake have super fun disc course so bring the discs for a family fun game!
Make a Texas-Sized splash at America’s Largest Indoor Water Park! The Kalahari waterpark has entertainment for the whole family. They have 30 waterslides, 20 pools and whirlpools, a wave pool, an adult swim-up bar, private cabanas, a waterfall, and a kiddie pool area.
